Sauvignon Blanc: A glass to enjoy

We are excited to once again provide our customers with one of New Zealand’s most iconic wineries Sauvignon Blanc. Grown in the beautiful Marlborough Babich Wines Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. is a vibrant and zesty wine.

Sauvignon Blanc is not only popular in the US but also here in New Zealand.

If facts Sauvignon Blanc is the most planted grape variety in New Zealand. In fact it makes up over 75% of all white grapes grown here.  You’ll find Marlborough is the top location for growing Sauvignon Blanc. with the grapes making up 85% of the plants grown there. Hawke’s Bay is another top location for growing Sauvignon Blanc.

Wine exports continue to grow

New Zealand wine exports continue to grow and are well on target to reach $2 billion by 2020.

The US market has seen New Zealand wines reach number 3, up 6% on 2016, with US sales reached US$422 million in 2017.

New Zealand is ahead of countries like Australia and Chile, however both France and Italy lead the way in wine sales in the US.

With New Zealand’s reputation for making premium wines it comes as no surprise that Sauvignon Blanc leads the way as a favourite for US drinkers. This is strongly supported by Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Syrah.

Introducing a new winery from Central Otago

It is always exciting to find new wines for our customers, so we are happy to introduce three new wines from the Central Otago Wine Company. These wines are; Pinot Noir 2014, Pinot Gris 2015 and Rose 2016.

We know you and your clients will enjoy these wines with chief winemaker, Dean Shaw, at the helm. Dean is an extremely talented winemaker with a somewhat droll sense of humour and an absolute passion for Pinot Noir.

Babich Wines: Toasting a century of excellence

Babich Wines was founded in 1916 when Josip Babich made his first New Zealand wine, Babich Logo smallselling it in cask and bottle under the name Babich Brothers. However, the story started long before that first wine was bottled. In 1910 fourteen-year-old Josip emigrated from Croatia to New Zealand to join his three brothers, who were earning a living digging and selling kauri gum in New Zealand’s far north.

In 1912 Josip planted his first vineyard on the terraces above the Kaikino Swamp gum field, and a few years later the first bottle of Babich Wines was created. In 1919 the Babich brothers moved to a new site in Henderson Valley, West Auckland (a property they had put a deposit on in 1911). This site became the family homestead and company headquarters (still in operation today).

Since then, Babich Wines has become an internationally awarded and respected brand. Josip’s legacy continues to guide the family company today. “A love of wine and family. A vision for the future and to produce nothing but excellence. To share and to enjoy – but these gains can only come from honest hard work, a care for the land and a care for the people. These are the things, we at Babich Wines, will never lose sight of”.
